If you liked Vesperia and you adjust your expectations just a bit you should like Symponia. Buy PS3 TALES OF SYMPHONIA CHRONICLES COMPILATION / BID TO WIN for R1,699.00. If you're a veteran console RPG player then you'll see a lot of the story elements and "twists" coming from a mile away. The story isn't your typical "Main villain wants to destroy the world" but it also doesn't feel particularly unique. The only time I did grind levels was to face an optional boss early in the game called the Sword Dancer. I never found an area in the game too hard nor did I ever once find myself grinding to get through a section. The combat is fun and compelling enough that it held my interest for the entire game (again, I haven't finished but I'm currently playing it and I'm right at the end)
The combat fun, it's just not as fluid feeling as Vesperia, but it did come out years earlier so that's to be expected. Make no mistake though, this is a good game. There sort of is between the main protagonist and the main female character, but it's very underplayed which I would call a good thing. There really isn't much of a love story in it, though I'll admit I haven't finished it yet. The story of Symponia is a bit less mature, I guess is how I would put it. The line between good and evil blurs in this epic adventure where the fate of two interlocked worlds hangs in the balance.
